The Swashbuckling Ladies Debate Society

Welcome to the seaside city of Massalia, nestled in the south of France. It’s the dawn of the 20th century, but things aren’t looking bright. A group calling themselves The Six engineered a sinister cultural revolution and have united all of Europe under one banner, all beholden to the Emperor. Saffron and Zinnia are a married lesbian couple who are doing their best to defend the people and fight evil wherever they find it, battling with swords, words, or whatever they can use. Opposed by villains like Lord Buxton Blue, Piker Pendulum, and The Red Rapscallion, the Ladies help where they can and seek to bring down this corrupt regime. The flame of hope is still burning bright in the Swashbuckling Ladies Debate Society.

The Monday Matinee Podcast

This was my first attempt at a real professional podcast. We started spending a bit of money on things like microphones and hosting platforms, and I think it shows.

When I first decided I was going to tell my own stories, I couldn’t pick just one to base a whole show on, so I decided that Monday Matinee would be a network where many stories could be told. But instead of one off stories, like they do on The Truth or Uncanny County, I would do short runs of shows. Kind of like the BBC, trying out a series before committing to it full time.

I’m very pleased with the work we did, but I realized it was almost impossible to explain what I was trying to do in a short, pithy manner. I could write it, but I couldn’t sell it. And the numbers reflected that.

Once The Swashbuckling Ladies Debate Society hit bigger than anything else, I knew what I needed to do. I’m very proud of these stories. Maybe they’ll get to be their own shows someday.

TO Prove A Villain

My first attempt at an audio drama podcast. We had zero budget, no equipment and no training in anything that had to do with audio. All we had were scripts, actors and gumption. And I think it shows.

In a way, this was elaborate fan fiction. I thought it would be fun to do a story about famous villains but have them telling their stories. We found a way to basically record phone calls, but I tried to write that into the narrative to explain why the sound quality wasn’t great.

I’m very pleased with the scripts and the performances. We even had Season Three written and ready to go, but soon realized that if we got any kind of success, we might be in some legal trouble. We decided to just tell our own stories from then on. The archive is still alive on the web. We’ve come a long way since then.
